PRESS RELEASE

On Saturday, March 25th, the Rotary Club of Winchester will sponsor Kaleidoscope, a black-tie optional fundraising event to be held at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. This event was created by our Club to raise money for community non-profit organizations. This fun filled evening will include dinner, a silent auction, and a chance to win $25,000 cash. With the support of our community, Kaleidoscope has raised over $700,000 for our community.

Our Club is pleased to announce the Free Medical Clinic of Northern Shenandoah Valley, Inc. will be the 2017 beneficiary. Funds raised from Kaleidoscope 2017 will be used to assist the Free Medical Clinic as they endeavor to provide quality care to our community.

The mission of the Free Medical Clinic is to improve the health of the community one individual at a time. The Free Medical Clinic is dedicated to the belief that everyone should have access to health care services and serves residents of Winchester, Frederick County, and Clarke County who have no health insurance and whose household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.

The Free Medical Clinic is staffed by 21 full time staff, including 2 family nurse practitioners, 1 psychiatric nurse practitioner, 1 nurse, 1 public health nurse, 3 medical assistants, 4 Community Health Workers, 1 pharmacist, 3 pharmacy-techs, 5 administration/executive staff. Additionally the clinic relies on a core group of approximately 40 volunteers who provide clinical services in house and 70 physician offices that FMC refers its patients to for specialty care and provides all-encompassing care onsite Monday – Friday. Additionally, through our Project FIRST initiative, the FMC provides free risk factor screening at locations throughout our catchment area at least twice per month, as well as intensive home-based case management to our most vulnerable patients who have often just arrived from a recent hospitalization.

Free Medical Clinic patients receive medication assistance through the Clinic’s in-house state licensed pharmacy. To date in 2016 the pharmacy has dispensed over $8 million in prescription medication.

The Free Medical Clinic’s long-standing partnerships with individuals and organizations representing each spoke in this network are a vital part of providing access to quality healthcare services to our patient population, and in turn to making a positive impact on their health outcomes and overall well-being. Working together to control these conditions not only makes a difference in the health of the patient, it also ensures more efficient use of community resources (including the emergency room) and improves the productivity and economic health of the community.
