Kaleidoscope 2013 is coming Saturday March 23rd.
Make plans now to attend this year's Kaleidoscope Gala. On Saturday March 23rd. A great time will be had by all. The evening will culminate with a $25,000 grand prize giveaway.
This year's beneficiary is Handley Regional Library Children's Garden.
About the Garden:
The garden will serve as a location for quiet reading for people of all ages and will be an outdoor location for children's programs and other events. The garden is located on Fairfax Lane and is the one area not improved by the library renovations that were finished in 2001.
Designed by Reader & Swartz Architects at no cost to the library, the garden features whimsical and functional spaces including risers for seating, attractive permanent panels promoting reading, and a life-size chess and checkers board that will also function as a hopscotch court and chalk drawing pad. It will be named the Mike Foreman Rotary Reading Garden in honor of the late Michael M. Foreman who was a Rotary member and longtime clerk of the Winchester Circuit Court.
Five years ago the Handley Regional Library Centennial taskforce designated the garden as its primary Centennial project, and the library staff members began fundraising for it. The site was graded, drainage and some concrete work done, a bench and statue were installed, and trees and bushes were planted. When local funding to the library was drastically cut, and the library board and staff decided all fundraising had to be devoted to avoiding furlough days, a need that has continued to the present time. The library's centennial year is the time to finish this community project.
